The theory & hazard perception test
So what do I have to do?
In order to pass your driving test you must first take a Theory &
Hazard Perception test. To book this test you can either call the DSA (Driving Standards Agency) direct on the following number:
0300 200 1122 or alternatively you can book on line here.
When booking your test you will need to have your provisional driving licence number and a credit / debit card with you, for
telephone or internet bookings. Postal applications are also available; follow the instructions on the application form and
any guidance notes which may accompany the application form. On completion of the form send with your payment to the address
On the day of your Theory & hazard perception test you will be required to attend your chosen test centre 15 minutes before the actual test, this is for registration purposes.
You will be expected to use the lockers provided for the safe keeping of your personal belongings as you are restricted to what
you can have on your person during the test.
Passing the test
To pass the theory part of the test you must answer 50 multi choice
questions. You must answer a minimum of 43 questions
correctly in order to achieve a pass in this section of the test. A sound knowledge of The Highway Code is essential.
When you have completed the theory test you will then move onto the Hazard Perception test. You will be shown 14 video clips on the computer screen. You will be required to click the mouse button every time you see a possible hazard begin to develop.
13 of the video clips contain 1 scoring hazard and 1 video clip contains 2 scoring hazards.
The maximum score you can achieve per clip is 5 points with the exception of the clip with the 2 scoring hazards. This clip has a maximum score of 10 points. The overall score required to pass this part of the test is currently 44 points out of a
